Wichita State

  1. Built in 1993 on the north side of the Wichita State campus. The chapter was a local fraternity, Phi Upsilon Sigma, founded in 1927. It was the first fraternity on campus to have a chapter house, the first on campus to own their own chapter house and then the first to build their own chapter house.

The alumni began a fund raising campaign in 1988 for $1.2 million dollars, later expanded to $1.8 million. Choice of locations were limited but over 3 acres of land existed next to sorority row. The property became available at a sheriffs auction for back taxes. Alumni bid and bought the property against no other bidders!

The chapter house is four floors with a total of 13,500 square feet. Designed to house 40 men. The house is situated on the property so as an addition could be built to house another twenty men. The addition has been designed so that it matches the exterior fascade. A two car garage also is on the property for the housemothers use and the men can use for building projects.
